17 May 2013 Barton upon Humber Civic Society Lecture - Life at a Japanese University by Tricia Coverdale Jones 7.30pm The Assembly Rooms, Barton. Admission members free, non-members 2.
Tricia spent five months at a Japanese university as a Visiting Professor and during her time there was able to research different approaches to higher education in the Japanese context and other aspects of Japanese life. The talk will focus on differences in the education system and learning culture but will also relate this to Japanese culture in a wider context.

20 September 2013 Barton upon Humber Civic Society Lecture - Stories in Stone - Alabasters by Geoff Bell 7.30pm The Assembly Rooms, Barton. Admission members free, non-members 2.
Alabaster was a stone quarried in Medieval times near Nottingham and from which church monuments were carved. From the late 14th century to the Reformation the down market side of the business was the production of much cheaper panels for export. This illustrated talk tells their story.
28 September 2013 Annual Handwriting Awards 2pm. Wilderspin National School Museum, Queen Street. Presentation of prizes by invitation only. Display of winning entries will be on display throughout the autumn, and a chance for families to experience and share their memories of dip pens and blotters!

18 October 2013 Barton upon Humber Civic Society Lecture - "Buy one get one free: the Sheffield's Hill Anglo-Saxon cemeteries." by Kevin Leahy 7.30pm The Assembly Rooms, Barton. Admission members free, non-members 2.
Anglo-Saxon cemeteries sometimes come in pairs, one of sixth century date, the other a very different cemetery dating from the seventh century. At Sheffield's Hill a team from the North Lincolnshire Museum managed the total excavation of one of these double cemeteries.

The Christmas story as told through the painted illustrations found in medieval and Renaissance illuminated manuscripts, notably private prayer books.

10 December 2013 Yuletide School Dinner 7pm for 7.30pm. Wilderspin National School Museum, Queen Street. The "School Cook" has agreed to put on a special Christmas dinner for all "pupils". Come along and reminisce about Christmas at school all those years ago. Tickets 12 per person in support of the continuing restoration of the School. Bar available. General Ongoing Clubs Meetings and Events

Mondays and Wednesdays Barton Army Cadets Barton Army Cadets - parade twice a week 7pm to 9pm, offer good training and weekends away on a military system.  Visits welcome, new cadets always needed and parents can be taught to become a cadet instructor.  For more information email andyyard1721@aol.com or alternatively call 0770 8663830 or write to 12 Mount Avenue, Barton upon Humber.
Tuesday (8pm) Barton Photographic and Digital Imaging Club Meeting at the Corn Exchange Club in the Market Place every Tuesday night at 8pm except for Christmas and the New Year.  The groups aim is to promote all aspects of photography.
Wednesdays (6.45pm - 7.45pm) Barton Majorette's Meet for disco dancing, cheerleading and baton twirling routines for shows, parades and competitions.
