Over the years the band has become well known and wishes to thank all its supporters for assisting in its continued development.

The Barton Town Band

Barton Town Band - May 2005A contesting band consists of 25 players of brass instruments and three percussion players. For concerts and other engagements the numbers may vary.

The Barton Town Band is totally self supporting and all members give their time and enthusiasm to enjoy playing together as a hobby. The Band is run by a management committee, which organises all the necessary concerts, contests, bookings and fund raising events; the purchase of instruments (ranging in price from 500 to 5000 for one item); music stands etc.; and of course social activities.

It is said that a Brass Band can present a wider repertoire than virtually any other music ensemble. It is an ideal means of introducing people to good music. Our band can certainly provide the inspiring sound of brass to enhance your function.

Listening to a good Brass Band is, to many, a thrilling experience with immediate impact, its fresh quality is unique and the many and varied articulations in tone textures and moods possible give considerable scope for desirable "pictures in sound".

Consequently our Band's repertoire is varied, consisting of popular tunes, arrangements from musicals, classical pieces, marches, and pieces especially composed for Brass Bands of which some are used for contesting.

Barton Youth Band

It was decided last year that we would expand our youth section into a full youth band, this we did by purchasing a complete new set of instruments. We were assisted in this from a large number of organisations and businesses, for this assistance we thank them.

Our youth band members all receive an instrument on free loan, they are required to attend a weekly half hour lesson and one hour band practice-we also set aside time to enter them into grade examinations if they desire it. They are taught by qualified and experienced teachers, Simon Percy being one of them. The band is constituted with Child Protection in mind and we require that all people having involvement with the youth band be criminal record bureau checked as well as supplying references from involvement in other activities where children are present.

The youth band is over subscribed, we have a waiting list of around 15 which is a funding headache so we have embarked on a round of fund raising and have grants in place to assist us financially. We do however, have to find 5000 to complete these grants and we are seeking assistance where we can to this end.

The instruments we are seeking to purchase are perhaps the more unusual ones - Timpani, Concert Bass Drum, Tuba's, Flugelhorn and Baritone horns - as well as the better known Cornets, Trombones and Euphoniums.
